Quote from A Korean Cyworld User

"Although more users are present in Cyworld, problems that myspace had (u know, sexual predator, murder and stuff)never happend or less frequent in cyworld."... (end quote)

Isn't that due to Cyworld Korea having it's members input their National ID number as part of the sign up process? In the US version, they only make you put in your email address and verify it... Leaves the door open to all that you mentioned above.

In the context of the statement...

The trick seems to be offering something for free and then making available other stuff to buy.

...trick doesn't imply deception, but rather an (otherwise) unknown method for accomplishing the task at hand.

Hello. I'm leaving a comment for your article because it sort of sounds a little sarcastic.
You used the word 'trick' about their marketing.
But the reality is that we (Korean ppl) all know and realize how much money they make by skins(backgrounds), song, and other items. And most ppl want to spend money to decorate their minihompy and when they don't want to, they simply don't buy things. And cyworld isn't taking off in the U.S. YET. They didn't even open or present an American-version Cyworld. Besides, cyworld existed years before myspace was created and in my opinion, comparing myspace to cyworld, myspace loses. Although more users are present in Cyworld, problems that myspace had (u know, sexual predator, murder and stuff)never happend or less frequent in cyworld.

You got me, I giggled out loud at above noted time. As for Rick from Cyworld, we love Rick! We think he's really smart and nice to boot. Sometimes, Chris is a bit crass (if you haven't noticed) he usually bites the ones he likes the most. Glad to hear you like the podcasts! :)
