Cory Doctorow has a long flowery apology to Ursula K Le Guin because she’s a copyright nazi that seems to be trying to enforce laws that don’t exist. What really seems to bother me is that if she was not a well known author Cory would not be sucking up to her. He would tell her he was within the law and to shove it. Cory just seem to be so crushed by his admiration for Ursula to put his foot down.

And Johnny Cash testified before Congress about the importance of tougher copyright laws…
But I think Cory’s words are justified. Le Guin is rather important in spec-fic, and it’s important that we respect those who are, in fact, masters and standard-bearers in the field, EVEN if we must also disagree truthfully with them and refraining from fawning fandom.
People can have whatever opinions they want. I’m more angry that it seems like Cory is pulling punches.
In the design community I’ve seen to many “top designers” become worshiped and then people believe every word they say.
I’m a big fan of questioning authority.
